Be a water smart workplace
Saving water is simple and it doesn’t take a lot of time and effort. Here are some easy ways to get started.
- Install reminder signs in your kitchen and bathroom areas to remind staff and customers to use water wisely.
- Install flow restrictors or tap aerators on your taps. They’re cheap and easy to install. And they significantly reduce water flow while still leaving you feeling like you’re getting a lot of water.
- If you have showers at your workplace, make sure they have low-flow showerheads.
- If you have single flush toilets, why not replace them with dual flush ones. If you don’t have the money to do this, the simplest way to reduce the water you use is to stick a plastic bottle full of water or brick in the cistern. This makes your cistern smaller. In lots of old toilets, you can put several bottles in and still get a good flush. Another alternative is gadgets that stop the toilet flushing as soon as you take your finger off the button so you can control the amount of water used. They’re cheap and available from environment shops, hardware shops and online.
