Their performance so far

It’s fair to say that the Baillieu Government’s record so far on the environment has taken us backwards. (We’re sure you’ve noticed!)

So we’re keeping an eye on all the decisions and actions they’re taking that affect Victoria’s precious environment – for better or worse.

Here are the actions they’ve made so far, current as Friday, 5 May 2012: 

  • Cattle grazing in the Alpine National Park. More
  • Reducing use of the north-south pipeline. More
  • Making windfarms harder to build. More
  • Appointed a Victorian Environmental Water Holder. More
  • Delaying the plan to Save the Murray. More
  • Doubled the Victorian Energy Efficiency Target. More
  • Supporting new coal-fired power stations such as HRL. More
  • Boost to rebates on water-efficiency products so all Victorian households benefit. More
  • Getting rid of water Target 155. More
  • Showing signs that development in national parks will be ruled out. More
  • Extending duck hunting season. More
  • Increasing the landfill levy. More
  • First budget has little for our environment More
  • Victoria's network of parks and reserves will increase by more than 10,000 hectares. More
  • Defunding Environment Victoria. More
  • Providing funding towards a geothermal project in the Surf Coast Region. More
  • Ending talks to replace Hazelwood Power Station. More
  • Investing $5 million in the trial of wave power off  Port Fairy. More
  • Removing all traces of Victoria's Climate Change White Paper. More
  • Investigating options on turning garden scraps into clean power. More 
  • Negative 'lights out' scaremongering. More
  • Creating a five year plan to clean up the Yarra and Port Phillip Bay. More 
  • Scrapping the Climate Communities Fund that's designed to help communities cut emissions. More
  • Investing $5.5 million to reduce the amount of food scraps and organic waste dumped in landfill. More
  • Showing warning signs of dumping the 20 percent target. More

  • Making it harder to build a wind farm than a new coal mine or coal-fired power station in Victoria. More
  • Committing some funding to support the Mildura solar farm. More

Ted Baillieu delivered massive cuts to environment programs in the state budget. However in true form, the Government didn't provide any details on which programs they actually cut. Can you help us build a list of specific programs that have been cut so we can get the word out?
