Hattah Lakes Storylines

Set in national parklands where the Murray River meets the Mallee, Hattah Lakes is a unique wetland environment and popular holiday spot in Victoria's north-west. Here, natural forests, sand dunes and lakes provide a safe haven for rare native birds, fish, plants, and many other living creatures.

It holds particular meaning and special memories for locals, as well as 70,000 annual visitors to the area. These internationally recognised wetlands depend on critical natural flooding cycles to stay vibrant and healthy, but a combination of drought, changes to natural flooding cycles and lack of water in the Murray River are putting Hattah Lakes’ delicate ecosystem under great stress.

Inspired by personal memories and meanings of this site, the Hattah Lakes storytellers are helping ensure the survival of this amazing place by showing the world why it is worth protecting.
