No New Coal Power for Victoria
UPDATE: HRL freezes Latrobe Valley power station plans after legal ruling. Read more
LEGAL UPDATE: VCAT has upheld the appeal by HRL and overturned the environmental and health-based limitations placed on the proposed new coal-fired power station by the EPA. Read more here
For a bit of background, see how the campaign has evolved right here
THE PROBLEM
A proposed new coal-fired power station called HRL has recently been approved by the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) in Victoria. If it goes ahead it will be the first coal-fired power station to be built in Victoria for 20 years. It will increase our carbon pollution by millions of tonnes every year and lock us into polluting and out-of-date technology for decades to come. Australia needs to move to genuinely clean, renewable energy quick smart, or we risk getting left behind.
Now, more than ever we need your help. Please, help us stop this new polluting beast from going ahead and put Victoria on track for a clean, renewable energy future instead. We can’t do it without you.
THE SOLUTION
In 2010, 4,000 people objected to the EPA regarding the HRL proposal – the most objections that the EPA has ever received on any issue - so we know that the community cares about this issue. But we know it’s going to take more than that super effort to stop this polluting beast from going ahead. We’ve got a two-pronged strategy that we’re confident can stop this polluting power station in it’s tracks:
WE'RE GOING TO COURT
If we win, no new polluting coal-fired power stations would ever be built in Victoria again – a lasting legacy for our environment. More info here
WE'RE TAKING IT TO THE FEDS
We're calling on the federal government to withdraw their finacial support for HRL. Here's eight good reasons why. But there's still plenty to do! Take action
All we’re missing now, is you. Can you get involved in our campaign to stop this new coal-fired power station in Victoria? Please, say you’ll help today
