A new report into the Baillieu Government’s environmental record has found that the decisions taken by the government will have a detrimental effect on Victoria’s food and energy security, cost of living and liveability.

Congratulations! Today, we’ve had a major win in our campaign to Stop HRL – the proposed new coal-fired power station in Victoria.

This afternoon the Federal Energy and Resources Minister Martin Ferguson announced that the federal government is withdrawing their $100 million grant to HRL because the company has failed to meet the conditions of that money for the sixth time.

Environment Victoria has today condemned Alcoa’s decision to source its electricity from Loy Yang Power’s brown coal power station for the next 26 years.

Environment Victoria Campaigns Director Mark Wakeham said that it was unacceptable for aluminium smelters to be locking in such a polluting power supply until 2036 and that Alcoa should have been looking at renewable energy and gas-fired generation to power its two Victorian smelters:
