Urimbirra Co-operative was formed in 1973 to purchase 400 hectares of more or less virgin bush in the Little Desert region of the Wimmera district of Victoria. It followed a controversy in the late 1960s when the State government had a proposal to subdivide most of the Crown land in this area for farming.
