Right now, demand for irrigation water from downstream irrigators is causing high flows down the Goulburn through summer and autumn. Too much water is being forced downstream too quickly, and it’s damaging riverbanks, fish breeding grounds and important cultural sites along the river.
The ecological damage is so severe that the government has put a moratorium on further downstream irrigation demands, but the demand is already too high. Now, the Andrews government is considering changing the rules to prevent high unseasonal flows that are causing this damage. Have your say today.
