Environment Victoria joins diverse voices for the Murray

Monday, 27 June 2011

Environment Victoria is part of a new alliance of diverse voices calling for a strong Murray-Darling Basin Plan to restore the health of the river system.

“It is critical that the Basin Plan return enough water to iconic Victorian sites like the River Red Gum National Parks” said Environment Victoria CEO Kelly O’Shanassy.

“We support this alliance and its website lifeblood.org.au because the Basin Plan is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to restore health to the Murray-Darling.”

“The lifeblood alliance reflects the breadth and magnitude of support across Australia for a decent Basin Plan. As Victoria’s peak environment group we are proud to be a part of it.”

“This important national water reform needs cohesive leadership, and a Basin Plan that returns at least 4,000GL of water to rivers.”

“Our polling shows that Victorians in both metropolitan and regional areas want and expect a strong Basin Plan.”

“Returning water to rivers is an investment in Victoria’s future.”

The Draft Murray Darling Basin Plan is due to be released for public comment in a matter of weeks.
