Power station closure talks reportedly break down

Environment Victoria is urging the Federal Government to keep negotiating with coal-fired power generators to close the Hazelwood Power station.

The Government is expected to announce today that talks to negotiate a price for the closure of the station have broken down.

Mark Wakeham from Environment Victoria says contract for closure is an integral part of the Government's emissions reduction policy.

"If the Government fails to deliver on that key plank of the package, the package will start falling apart and elements of the package, like the $5.5 billion compensation that power stations like Yallourn and Hazelwood are now receiving will come into question," he said.
