Parks Victoria cuts show ‘contempt’ says union

PARKS Victoria staff in the south-west face job cuts, with the state government wanting to shed 120 positions through voluntary redundancies throughout Victoria.

Community and Public Sector Union state secretary Karen Batt said the redundancy plan would cut Parks Victoria’s workforce by 10 per cent and reduce its ability to manage biodiversity, respond to emergencies and protect parks users.

The state government had taken a “cowardly approach” by announcing the redundancy plan late on Friday and described it as “creating a resilient Parks Victoria”, Ms Batt said. 

“This spin displays a foul contempt for the workforce,” she said.

She said the plan for 120 redundancies was on top of 20 management positions expected to go in a restructure of park responsibilities and the 4337 job cuts already planned across the state public service…
