Five years after we released a report on our vision for Melbourne’s water supplies, the government’s new plan Melbourne’s Water Future recommends a number of the positive actions we recommended, including an emphasis on water efficiency and the use of local and alternative water sources to meet Melbourne’s needs rather than building more expensive and environmentally damaging dams and desalination plants. This is exactly the type of planning that Melbourne needs to meet its future water needs.
