Hit the Garage Sale Trail!

Get active in the One Planet Economy this month by visiting or running a Garage Sale. October is the best month to do it because Saturday 26 October is Garage Sale Trail day.

One powerful action we can all take to reduce our impact on the planet is simply to spend less money and buy less stuff, particularly brand new stuff. Every item sold and bought at a garage sale helps reduce the amount of new consumer goods that flood our economy every day, and keeps usable items out of landfill.

Need some kitchen containers? Don’t whip down to Target and buy some plastic cheapy that’s been shipped across the globe. Find a garage sale.

Need a Phillips-head screwdriver? There’s enough of those in the world already without buying a new one. Head out to a garage sale!

On Garage Sale Trail day there are so many garage sales happening  there’s a good chance you’ll find what you’re looking for. And if you’re selling, thousands of customers are out and about looking for you.

As well as the environment benefits, you’ll tap into some community spirit, meet some new people and strengthen your neighbourhood ties. You’ll also clear out the spare room or garage and make a bit of money, or maybe a lot. Spend it at a garage sale!

We’ll be getting in the spirit too with our own garage sale site in Carlton selling books, clothes, household items and sustainability goodies. You can register as a stall holder or come along and and participate in one of our FREE sustainability workshops…
