The diesel rebate, more formally known as the Fuel Tax Credit Scheme, provides tax-free fuel to a range of industries, mostly for off-road use. Over the forward estimates, the rebate costs the Australian public around $7 billion per year, making it one of the largest single expenditure programs in the country.
