Since the Andrews government came to power with a commitment to make Victoria a leader on climate change, we have been working hard to define what leadership looks like and ensuring the government meets that standard.
This yielded results early in 2017, with the passage of a new Climate Change Act that is a major step forward over the weakened version that was left behind by the Baillieu/Napthine government. Victoria now has a target of net zero emissions by 2050, enshrined in law.
Victoria now also has a Climate Change Framework, which involves developing plans to cut emissions across the entire state, and locks in an emissions reduction target of 15-20 percent by 2020.
