AGL has failed to make the case that its gas project is either necessary or an acceptable way to address Victoria’s energy security. At the same time, serious flaws and mischaracterisations in technical reports raise serious doubts that AGL would be able to avoid or manage the potential environmental and social impacts of its proposed project.
In 2020, Victoria can and must do better than to allow a gas import terminal, which will lock in high gas usage and therefore high greenhouse gas emissions, to be built within the boundaries of an internationally significant marine ecosystem.
