In response to the news that the Andrews government funding boost of $40 million for 3 new offshore wind projects off the coast of Gippsland, Environment Victoria CEO Jono LaNauze said today:
“Environment Victoria welcomes this announcement, which builds on Victoria’s growing reputation as the clean energy capital of Australia.”
“Today’s announcement will also help to “walk the talk” of providing a just transition for coal workers and their families by providing much needed clean energy employment opportunities for affected communities in Gippsland and beyond.”
“The three projects proposed under this announcement have the combined potential to create 5600 clean energy jobs, bring more than $18 billion in clean energy investment into Victoria, and power over 3 million homes with clean, renewable energy.”
“This a win-win for Victoria – providing the extra power needed to overcome our state’s reliance on dirty, polluting and aging coal-fired power stations, while creating a steady stream of highly skilled jobs in the renewable energy sector.”
“Victoria is in a period of transition and needs clean energy investment like this that will create clean energy jobs and provide a safer future for our communities without further damaging our climate.”
