In 2022 we joined the growing momentum against fossil fuel sponsorship of sports, or ‘sportwashingwashing’.
We wrote to Cricket Australia’s CEO, encouraged thousands of supporters and cricket fans to write their own messages, and publicly highlighted why Alinta, Victoria’s third largest climate polluter, was an inappropriate sponsor for a sport that is so exposed to climate impacts.
So the news in mid 2022 that Cricket Australia was cutting short its sponsorship deal with Alinta by one year, and would not be renewing it, came as a welcome win!
