FAQ

I don’t know much about Environment Victoria, is this event for me?

This Summit is for people who are interested in taking on an ongoing volunteer role in EV’s Action Network, and if you are new to Environment Victoria you are more than welcome to join us. We’ll be offering an online induction prior to the Summit in February so you can come along and find out more about the Action Network, meet other people and what to expect at the Summit

In particular we are looking for people who:

  • Can inspire and empower the people around you
  • Work collaboratively, by listening and embracing the skills of others
  • Are eager to learn campaigning and organising tools
  • Are caring, compassionate and inclusive
  • Have a good understanding of your local community, as well as broader environmental and political issues

In the EV Action Network we value learning, so if you feel like you fit some but not all of the above, we encourage you to still register your interest.

What will I get out of this training?

Across the 2 day training you will:

  • Meet like-minded people from across the state
  • Be apart of making plans for actions and events for the rest of 2024
  • Build skills in cross-cultural organising and outreach to multicultural communities
  • Take your story telling skills to the next level and learn how to inspire others to take action with you

I’ve already been to an Action Network Summit why should I come to this one?

This Summit will look and feel different to previous Summits, we’re shaking up some of our content and will have a stronger focus on cross-cultural organising and campaigning. We will have some deeper content on story telling as well as an opportunity for you to feed in to EV’s strategic planning process.

I’m a member of a different local climate or environment group should I come?

This Summit is for people who are open to joining Environment Victoria as a volunteer and getting involved in our campaigns. If you are already involved in a local group and can imagine joining Environment Victoria activities you are welcome to join.

By joining the Environment Victoria Action Network, you’ll be connected to a people-powered movement working to cut damaging climate pollution, transition to clean energy and protect our beautiful natural places.

There’s plenty of ways you can get involved – no matter your skills, experience or location!

What are the details on accommodation, transport and catering?

Accommodation and catering will be provided from the evening of Friday 19th April, to allow people to travel on that day rather than on Saturday morning, if they wish.

  • Accommodation: Comfortable shared bunk rooms with options for people with physical access needs
  • Catering: Very tasty vegan food, and can accommodate all dietary requirements
  • Transport: We hope to arrange carpooling to lower travel costs and fuel use

What is expected of Environment Victoria volunteers?

Each week will probably look very different! In one week, you may be chatting to your neighbours at market stalls or meeting your MP and in another you could be hosting events in your neighbourhood or painting a banner. By getting involved, you’ll meet new people, learn new skills, and make a difference in your community.

How much time you dedicate to EV is up to you, some core volunteers give 3-10 hours a week, while others might volunteer 2 hours a month. There’s a role for everyone in the Action Network.

What exactly is the ‘Action Network’?

We know that people power is key to inspiring the action we need and holding our leaders to account. So we’re building a network of Victorians like you to bring together local communities across the state and take action. Find out more about the Action Network here >>

But I have kids?

We’re looking into providing childcare on site during the main program times, so please get in touch to discuss.

I live nearby, can I go home at night?

We have developed the program to be an immersive experience and a lot of relationship building and discussion happens in the evenings. If staying overnight is a barrier to you participating, please get in touch and we can discuss alternative options, including ensuring you can stick around for shared meals.

Can’t find your answer here? Fill out the registration form above and one of our team will contact you to discuss any questions you might still have.
