Environment Victoria response to extension of Victorian Energy Upgrades

Environment Victoria today welcomed the Victorian Energy Minster’s announcement of an extension of the Victorian Energy Upgrades program that provides incentives for households and businesses to install energy-efficient appliances.

Senior climate and energy adviser Kat Lucas-Healey said:

“The extension of the Victorian Energy Upgrades program to 2045 keeps it in step with our climate targets.”

“It wasn’t that long ago that Victorian homes were riddled with halogen downlights, driving up electricity bills. The Victorian Energy Upgrades program made our rapid transformation to efficient LEDs possible.”

“The program has more work to do, including the vital job of incentivising upgrades to efficient electric heating and hot water. Making the jump from gas to electric is a win for energy bills, health and the climate, and it needs to be accessible for everyone.”
