The President of Environment Victoria, Amanda Nuttall, today announced the departure of Kelly O’Shanassy, Chief Executive Officer, after seven years of outstanding leadership.
“Kelly has been pivotal in enhancing Environment Victoria’s reputation and performance as the strong, courageous and effective organisation that it is today” said Ms Nuttall.
“Under Kelly’s leadership, Environment Victoria stopped a new coal-fired power station, HRL, making it virtually impossible to build new coal in Victoria again; played a key role in the historic Murray Darling Basin Plan to save our mighty Murray River; with the environment movement won a price on pollution for Australia; made recycling cheaper; and organised Australia’s largest rally for action on climate change.
“And, of course there is still so much more to do every day as more Victorians join Environment Victoria in safeguarding our environment.
“Kelly will be missed for her enthusiasm, dedication and passion, but she has left the organisation stronger and more influential than ever before.
“We are happy that Kelly will continue her wonderful work campaigning for our environment, in her new role as Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Conservation Foundation. We know what Kelly is capable of and will be watching her progress with much excitement” said Ms Nuttall.
Recruitment for a new CEO will begin immediately. Mark Wakeham, Environment Victoria’s Campaigns Director, will perform the role of Acting CEO until a new CEO is appointed.
“Mark has been an integral part of the leadership team at Environment Victoria for the past six years and the Board is confident in his ability to keep Environment Victoria strong and focused during the process of finding a new CEO.”
