Victoria’s environment and climate are under threat from a disastrous new brown coal project.
After years of progress in cutting climate pollution and setting an end date for coal-burning power, we’re now facing a potential climate disaster from a brand-new coal industry.
What’s the threat?
A group of Japanese companies plan to:
The climate pollution from this scheme equivalent to putting more than 550,000 petrol cars back on the road each year.
At full scale, this project could mine and gasify up to 30 million tonnes of brown coal every year, which would pollute the air with harmful coal dust & mercury.
Making hydrogen from brown coal is the most polluting method possible. Worse, this project could lead to decades more coal pollution, including keep brown coal mines open for longer when they should be closed and properly rehabilitated.
Fossil fuels must stay in the ground.
The Victorian Government is considering funding this project, and they’re expected to make their decision very soon.
We’ve stopped similar projects before – but only with the support of people like you.
Together, we can protect Victoria’s environment, climate, and communities from this polluting coal-to-hydrogen scheme.
Please donate today to help stop this project before it’s too late.
Together, we can protect our climate and precious ecosystems for generations to come.
Thank you for your generous support.
