Environment Victoria statement on energy supply

The latest Statement of Opportunity report from AEMO shows that we are on the right track – Victoria’s reliability gaps are smaller than previously predicted – but we need to stay the course on the renewable energy transition away from fossil fuels.

Environment Victoria Senior Climate and Energy Policy Advisor, Kat Lucas-Healey said:

“The current suite of renewable, storage, transmission and CER coordination projects underway will do the job required of powering our state as long as we remain on track and deliver these projects on time and in full.

“The Victorian and Commonwealth governments must act fast to fill any potential shortfalls by fast tracking clean renewable energy. This is essential for the orderly and on-time closure of the Yallourn power station later this decade.

“Nuclear would only be a distraction that won’t be built anywhere on time to meet Victoria’s energy needs – as well as being the most expensive and water intensive energy source of all.”
