Will you deliver crucial resources to your local member during the week of action to show that Victorians want electrification? Use our quick tool to email your MP to let them know you’re coming to drop off electrification resources to their office (and get a snap for social media).
Plus we have a bunch of colourful yard signs that you can pickup from our Carlton office and show in your window/ front yard.
Be clear and brief: MPs receive many emails, so aim to keep your request to a few short paragraphs. In the subject line, clearly state your request (e.g. “Request to meet and discuss home electrification”)
Introduce yourself: Start by introducing yourself and the suburb you live in. MPs are more likely to respond to people in their electorate. Add in a brief sentence about why you care about this issue.
State the purpose: Clearly explain why you wish to talk to them about electrification (e.g. “I wish to show my support for government policy to repower homes with all-electric appliances, and deliver a helpful briefer on the subject”).
Be respectful: Keep your tone polite and professional. Our aim is to show our support for a positive proposed policy!
Propose timing: Suggest a few dates and times when you’d be available, ideally within the week of December 2nd-8th.
Provide contact information: Include your email and phone number for easy follow-up.
Follow-Up: If you don’t receive a reply you should still drop off the resources!
EXAMPLE EMAIL:
Request to meet and discuss home electrification
Dear NAME OF MP,
My name is NAME and I live in SUBURB.
I am aware that the Victorian government is about to consult on a plan to repower Victorian homes with efficient electric gas hot water heaters and space heaters, essentially signaling a phase out of these polluting gas appliances.
Electrification is a great way to cut cost of living pressures, (upgrading from gas to electric heating will cut annual heating and cooling by two-thirds and pay itself off within a year), reduce climate pollution and protect Victorians’ health. It’s also the best way to avoid the gas shortfall crisis.
I would like to demonstrate my support for this policy by delivering a useful briefer which summarises the opportunity of home electrification to NAME OF MP during the week of December 2-8. It would be preferable to meet NAME OF MP and get a photo together. However, if this isn’t an option I could instead deliver the briefer to the office at a time convenient for the office staff.
The best time for me is TIME AND DATE.
