Murray-Darling Basin: political stars aligning

A Conservation Alliance Online Seminar

For the first time in years, there is hope for Australia’s largest river system.

This is the story the Murray-Darling needs, an incredible collaboration of Conservation Councils across the Basin working on one goal: to get enough water flowing in our rivers for the 260+ species who face extinction if our governments don’t lift their game.

Thanks to the support of brave-hearted people like you, we have ticked off our first campaign milestone with the passing of the ‘Restoring Our Rivers Bill’ in November 2023. We are now hard at work on securing ambitious federal election commitments for the Murray-Darling, milestone two in this three-part campaign.

Please join us for a private online briefing about the Conservation Alliance’s plan to secure the future of this vast river system.

Our sparkling MC Charlotte Nitschke, Conservation Council South Australia’s Water Campaigner, will lead an uplifting conversation featuring:

  • Environment Victoria CEO, Jono La Nauze on how our unique collaboration came about, and the incredible success we have achieved so far.
  • Conservation Alliance Lead, Craig Wilkins on exciting next steps in his home state, South Australia, politically crucial ahead of the next election.
  • Special guest speaker, young farmer Kate McBride, an unwavering advocate for both a healthy Darling-Barka River and Menindee Lakes.
  • You will also hear from some of Australia’s best rivers campaigners and community advocates on coordinated actions taking place in each Basin state.

When: Monday 29th April,  12-1.15 pm (AEST)

Where: Online – please register for Zoom Link

About us

The Murray-Darling Conservation Alliance is a national voice for the rivers, wetlands and wildlife of the Murray-Darling. Members include conservation groups in every Basin state – NSW, Vic, SA and QLD – representing half a million people in rural communities and east-coast cities. Each group has been advocating for the environment at a state level for more than 50 years. Together we have a shared vision for healthy inland rivers.
