in support of strong action on climate change and putting a price on carbon pollution

The rally, held at Julia Gillard’s Commonwealth Office in Treasury Gardens, was in response to a ‘climate denier’ rally that was being staged outside Julia Gillards electoral office in Werribee in opposition to the carbon price and action on climate change.

Despite having only one weeks notice, the amazing turn out in Treasury Gardens showed that Victorians are serious about climate action, and are urging the government to get moving. By contrast, only 200 attended the anti-carbon tax rally in Werribee which was supported by the Liberal Party and extreme right-wing radio shock jocks.

Well done to all of you who came along and made yourselves heard on this important issue on Saturday. The overwhelmingly positive message was that the community is saying YES to climate action, and YES to a safe climate for our kids future.

But this is only the beginning. With Tony Abbott stirring up opposition to climate action through a misinformation campaign, we’re going to need all hands on deck to help keep our politicians on track to deliver the climate action that we need.
