10

Yay! Only 10 more sleeps till Christmas! That’s 10 more days to run around like crazy searching high and low for prezzies woo-hoo! That’s hours upon hours of time to spend a small fortune we don’t have, on things our loved ones don’t want or need – and will probably end up in landfill. Woo-ooh.. no.

Here’s a thought. This year before we get our festive shop on, lets take a sec to think about alternative ways to hold onto the good bits of the silly season, while still showing our love for each other and our planet.

Here’s our top 10 Green Gift ideas…

For that person who has everything – give them an experience. Buy them tickets to a concert, sporting event, cooking class.. the options are endless
For a gift that won’t clutter the house, gather dust and will be mighty delish too go for baked goods. Who could resist some long lasting fruit cake, yo-yo’s or some good ol’ lamingtons. Mmm-mm!
Give a voucher for your time. Thinking a massage, a home cooked meal, mowing the lawn or babysitting the kids *cough cough*
Have a squizz at local antique markets or vintage fairs to find that special second-hand sustainable gift
A mixed tape (slash cd) is always a hit! Lovebirds, take note!
For the green thumbs out there why not give seeds that one day will bear herbs, fruit or veggies. Or perhaps give native shrub that will provide food for native birds, or a potted tree that could become the household Christmas tree for years to come
Encourage your loved ones to get out into nature by taking them camping or buying them swimming or snorkeling gear
If you do want to buy something off the shelf, look for items that will last forever. So for the littlies, go for wooden toys rather than plastic ones. Or hunt around for jewellery, bags or wallets made for recycled objects or materials
If there’s a million of you in your family but you still want to give something special opt for a Kris Kringle arrangement. That way there’s less fuss over hunting for prezzies, no need to spend a fortune giving everyone a gift and most of all less waste. Win-win-win!
For that warm and fuzzy gift consider donating to a good cause! Please give to our Save the Murray appeal and help save the communities and wildlife that depend on it
