“Today, Denis Napthine and the Liberal party confirmed that they have no vision for addressing the serious and urgent challenges posed by climate change or our fragile environment.”

“The government’s own State of the Environment Report confirmed that our environment and ecosystems are under significant strain. The Coalition is yet to announce any significant policy agenda in this term of government or election campaign to protect and restore the environment and reduce the state’s greenhouse emissions. In fact the past four years have seen a series of damaging attacks on our environment, and the scrapping of all government programs that were cleaning up our energy supply.”

“Liberal governments are capable of caring for the environment and in fact established Melbourne’s Green Wedges and the Environment Protection Act. Unfortunately Dr Napthine seems intent on trashing the once-proud environmental legacy and vision of Liberal premiers like Sir Rupert Hamer.”

“Former Liberal premiers knew that state governments must lead when it comes to safeguarding the environment. Sadly, today’s launch by Dr Napthine fails when it comes to presenting a serious vision for Victoria’s environment and climate.”

Environment Victoria has compiled a list of the major environmental and climate change related election commitments and policies by the major parties, which is available here.
