Environment Victoria's Submission to the Independent Inquiry into the Environment Protection Authority

The Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Water has appointed a Ministerial Advisory Committee to examine the EPA’s role, powers and tools, governance and funding, and make recommendations to government.

We welcome the comprehensive review of the EPA’s performance and its enabling legislation. We recognise that many of the inadequacies of the EPA are a direct consequence of the legislation under which they operate which has not been modernised to any significant extent for decades.

In this submission we have chosen to focus on a series of case studies examining the moments when we have interacted most deeply with the EPA.
