SEC one-stop-shop will help Victorians slash energy bills by switching to clean, renewable energy

Environment Victoria today welcomed the Allan government’s announcement that the publicly funded SEC will provide a free one-stop-shop to help Victorian households cut their energy bills by switching to clean, renewable electricity and upgrading old inefficient appliances in their homes.

Dr Kat Lucas-Healey, Senior Climate and Energy Advisor at Environment Victoria said:

“We’re delighted the SEC’s one-stop-shop will be expanded to support all Victorian households to go electric and slash their energy bills following the successful pilot program.

“Being able to find vetted and accredited tradespeople is so important – it means people know they can trust the advice they receive and know the job will be done right.

“Now is the perfect time to go electric and avoid those massive winter gas bills.

“Our analysis last year found that getting rid of ducted gas heating and installing efficient electric reverse cycle air conditioning can cut home heating bills by two thirds, while giving households the ability to keep cool in summer.”

Hayley Sestokas, Gippsland Organiser at Environment Victoria said:

“It’s great to see the SEC will be standing up a new customer service team in Morwell to help all Victorians electrify their homes. The Latrobe Valley has always been the heart of Victoria’s energy system.”

“Unfortunately the Allan Government has not been consistent in its support for the Latrobe Valley communities. The loss of the Latrobe Valley Authority and Latrobe Valley Health Assembly has left gaps in the government’s commitment to this region.”
