Jess Wilson must set a new course on Treaty, climate and renewable energy

In response Jess Wilson this morning ousting Brad Battin to become the new Victorian Liberal Party leader, Environment Victoria CEO Jono La Nauze said today:

“We congratulate Jess Wilson on becoming the first female leader of the Victorian Liberal Party.

“Just a year out from the next state election, it’s critical that Victorian voters know where the major parties stand on crucial environmental and climate policy.

“Victorian voters deserve to know where the Liberal party under Jess Wilson’s leadership stands on crucial issues including affirming the party’s support for Victoria’s 2035 climate and renewable energy targets, whether she will reverse the party’s ludicrous support of restarting native forest logging in Victoria, and whether she will reverse the Victorian Liberals betrayal of Indigenous communities and support Treaty.

“Having just witnessed the federal Liberal party’s appalling move in dropping support for net zero by 2050, Jess Wilson must set the Victorian Liberals on a different course by adopting the sensible climate and environmental policies that Victorian voters expect.”

“With her background in climate financing and energy policy, we hope that Jess Wilson will build a solid, forward looking climate policy agenda to underpin the wellbeing of all Victorians.”
