This submission addresses the Australian Energy Market Commission’s (AEMC) discussion paper, Gas networks in transition, that proposes updates to the rules that govern how gas distribution networks are regulated.
We welcome the AEMC’s attention to the urgent issue of gas network transition. The transition away from gas is not a future problem; it is already well underway in Victoria. Over the next 10 to 20 years there is a high degree of certainty that gas will be phased out due to the rapidly eroding economics of using gas and the need for Victoria and Australia to cease burning fossil fuels and meet our climate commitments.
