Hear from local experts and community leaders and learn how you can make a submission.
ENGIE’s Environment Effects Statement (EES) for their plan to remediate the Hazelwood coal mine is now open for public submissions. This is a key opportunity to raise concerns and tell decision makers what a fair and responsible rehabilitation must deliver.
The documents are extensive but you don’t need to be an expert to have your say! We’re working with community partners and experts to review, break it all down so we can provide you with guidance on how to give meaningful feedback.
WHAT: Webinar on the Hazelwood Mine EES with experts and community leaders
WHEN: Wednesday October 21, 6.30pm
WHERE: Online via Zoom
The Hazelwood coal mine closed in 2017. And now decisions are being made about how the enormous open cut mine will be made safe, what happens to the surrounding land, and where the water proposed to fill the mine void for its rehabilitation will come from.
Hazelwood is the first of the Latrobe Valley’s three coal mines to close. The decisions made here could set a precedent for what happens at Yallourn and Loy Yang, with lasting consequences for the Valley’s communities, waterways across Gippsland and future of our region.
