What is going on, and why this matters:

Solstice Energy recently announced that it would be cutting off gas supply to 10 Victorian towns over the next 12 months. The gas supply to these affected towns was only connected 10 to 15 years ago, and some people connected to Solstice Energy’s network even more recently.

The Victorian Parliament is currently holding an inquiry on how oil and gas infrastructure should be decommissioned in future and we think it’s important they hear from people affected by the Solstice Energy shutdown.

Environment Victoria would like to hear from people who have been affected by the Solstice Energy shutdown, including householders and business owners. We’ve created a quick survey to gather your input, and we’ll use these responses to inform Environment Victoria’s recommendations.

We‘ll also summarise the responses in Environment Victoria’s submission to the inquiry. Quotes will be attributed using first name and location (e.g. ‘Lucy from Kerang’).

As gas prices go up and Victorians use less, gas companies pulling out is a problem that is not going to go away. We want better planning and support so that communities can plan for the future and aren’t left stranded on unaffordable gas.
