Gas Mystery Shopper Tactic Resources

Everyday hundreds of old polluting gas appliances reach the end of their lifespan, providing opportunities for Victorian families to switch to cleaner, healthier electric appliances. But the gas lobby doesn’t care. They‘re fighting tooth and nail to keep Victorians trapped to their toxic, polluting products for as long as they can.  

That’s why we want to know – when Victorians replace their old appliances, are they being persuaded to buy clunky, expensive and polluting gas appliances? Or are they being directed to affordable, electric solutions? 

We’re running a mystery shopper action to find out – but we can’t do it without you.

How do I become a mystery shopper?

1. Fill out the registration form above

2. Learn our script and figure out your secret backstory 😎

3. Pick a store near you, or a store that you’re able to call. This can be any store that sells both electric and gas appliances (i.e. gas stoves + induction cooktops). Harvey Norman, Bunnings, The Goodguys, Reece Plumbing, and Betta Living are all good options!

4. Have a conversation with a retail staff member. Remember to ask the three key questions listed in the script 🤫

5. Take a photo 📸 of any prominent gas OR electric appliance displays at the store, especially if they are promoting gas appliances or the benefits of going electric. Feel free to jump in for a selfie if you can do it discreetly!

6. Almost there! Record the results and upload any photos to our survey.
